“blogs,” “posts,” ”pages,” and “comments”:
First some jargon: the entirety of your journal constitutes a “blog”. Your blog is made up of some layout elements and the links on the right hand side, but the essential text comes from:
- your “posts”: little different from entries in a diary which appear in date sequence;
- “pages”: likewise generated by you in a similar format to posts but which appear in a fixed place and do not flow like diary entries (like the headings at the top of this page “What is a Trip Journal” etc or like the draft “about” page in your blog which will appear when you set up your blog for information about your self);
- then “comments” which are friends’ or any other readers’ comments on your posts. As the owner of the blog you can edit or remove these comments, or you can reply to them and start a discussion.
The username you choose for your blog is of course up to you - this is the name the world will see.
Again the title of the blog is also up to you (everything is!) but we suggest something relevant either to one particular trip (“Europe Spring 2008,” or “Our Venice Trip” or such like) or to all your trips.
Then we recommend that the title you choose for each post reflects the content matter of the post “A day trip from Murano to Venice” for example, then in the first paragraph a description of what you are going to write about in that post: “A visit to the island of Murano, famous for a thousand years for its production of glass. The island is about 20 mins from Venice itself.” (See example ».)
Remember you can edit anything you write or that appears on your blog. An easy way is to click on the word | Edit | at the bottom of any post (it only appears if you are logged in: to do so click on the word “login” on the right hand side).
To log in enter your username and password when prompted to do so. You can change your password at any time by clicking on “Site Admin” then on “My Profile” at the very top right hand corner.
