VENICE: WHERE TO STAY

Venice has plenty of accommodation to provide for its multitude of visitors, but booking early is essential.

Luxurious palazzos have been beautifully converted into 5-star accommodation but there are also a number of new mid-range hotels, and former convents offer perhaps the simplest but best value stay in the city, which can be easily booked directly or via an agent. See www.monasterystays.com for example.

Dorsoduro has perhaps the greatest concentration of moderately priced hotels away from the most crowded areas.
